This introductory training course is a two-day basic overview of immigration law with a focus on family-based immigration. Topics to be covered include: immigrating through marriage and other family relationships; the application process for permanent residence; grounds of inadmissibility; affidavits of support; remedies under the Violence Against Women Act; removal proceedings; refugee and asylee status; naturalization and citizenship; and BIA recognition and accreditation. Recent changes to the law will be included.

The trainers for this course will be attorneys Jennie Guilfoyle of CLINIC’s New York office and Laura Greer of Immigration Services, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Atlanta

The training is intended for legal workers and lawyers new to immigration law practice; more experienced advocates in need of review or updates may also find it useful.
