The Grandparent/Relative Caregiver Project trains private attorneys to conduct adoptions for the growing number
of grandparents and other relatives who are raising children in the place of absent or deceased parents. Relative
caregivers, many of whom are retired and living on fixed incomes, often struggle to care and provide for the new
members of the household. This training will provide the information and forms needed in an adoption from the
first meeting with the client through the final adoption hearing. Paralegals and law students may volunteer for the
project but are responsible for finding a trained attorney with whom to work.
