Please join us for this free (for NAPBPro Members) webinar in which various pro bono professionals will describe their model programs. Listen to what other professionals are doing and consider whether their ideas would work in your service areas too!

• Custody Mentorship Program (Pennsylvania, Dauphin County Bar Association): Custody mentor/mentee program in which the experienced attorney and the new attorney each agree to do very specific tasks, including both participating in some aspects of the case together. This program addresses the reasons many traditional mentor/mentee relationships are not successful.
• Divorce Basics for Pro Bono Attorneys (E. St. Louis, Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation): This program recruits attorneys who do not regularly practice family law to handle pro bono divorces by providing extensive written resources and 3.5 hours of free training and CLE credit. Program was attended live and via webcast; a total of 64 attorneys participated.
• Housing Negotiation Project (San Francisco, Volunteer Legal Services Program): Provides pro bono limited scope representation for individuals and families facing evictions during the settlement conference (which is mandatory for all cases in which jury trial has been requested). Every person at this stage of litigation has access to a pro bono attorney and would not otherwise receive assistance. Attracts litigation as well as transactional attorneys (as negotiation crosses both disciplines).
• SoundStart - (Idaho, Volunteer Lawyers Project): Volunteers provide education, referral, and advice sessions to new, low-income parents to help them legalize family law matters before issues arise (and domestic violence could occur). Presentations include: establishing custody and visitation schedules, securing child support, and planning for future care of children.
• STEP Expungement Project (Detroit, Legal Aid and Defender Association): Places cases for expungement of a client's criminal record with pro bono attorneys, collaborating with an organization which pays the fees for fingerprinting, certified court documents, and criminal records. PAI staff prepare pleadings and advise clients. After filing, a private attorney will either represent them at the hearing or give them advice as to why their case does not have merit.
