This on-going project provides Women in the Profession Committee (WIP) members with opportunities to assist low-income patients and survivors of breast, cervical, or ovarian cancer with the legal issues they face that distract them from focusing on treatment and wellness. The training will be held on Thursday, October 28th from 8:00 - 10:00 at the State Bar of Georgia.
The training is free to WIP section members, who will also receive double-entry in the give-away at the WIP Pre- Game Happy Hour at 6:00 pm at Dantana's (the Happy Hour is free to all WIP members.).
The cost for non-section members is $15. For $10 more, you'll also receive membership in the WIP Section, PLUS free admission to the WIP Pre-Game Happy Hour at 6:00 pm at Dantana's, PLUS double-entry in the Happy Hour give-away.
Opportunities for Involvement:
Intake Sessions: Trained volunteers will be able to signup to attend monthly intake sessions with Haley Schwartz at local hospitals and area clinics and will have the option to accept cases to work up with Legal Aid's support.
Consultants List: All members are encouraged to become a consultant for this project. The WIP consultant list is maintained on an on-going basis and provided to Haley Schwartz at Atlanta Legal Aid for use with the project as an additional resource. Participating lawyers are listed along with their primary practice areas and may be contacted by Haley Schwartz for consultation on a particular issue.
Those that have limited resources and systems of support need an advocate to deal with the legal aspects of the medical, economic and personal issues that arise when facing illness.
The Cancer Legal Initiative is a division of Atlanta Legal Aid that gives free legal help such as advice, representation, form preparation, and other aid to eligible individuals.
