This program offers a unique opportunity for meaningful pro bono advocacy on behalf of abused and neglected
children. Volunteer lawyers are appointed to represent a child throughout the entirety of a deprivation case in
juvenile court. Volunteers are essential in achieving a stable, loving and permanent placement for the children
they represent. Training includes how children come into foster care; an overview of child welfare law; representing
the foster child; ethics; the best interests of the child; understanding child protective services; and the mechanics
of juvenile court. Ongoing support, including case consultation, is provided by AVLF.
