The National Consumer Law Center offers a limited number of scholarships for California nonprofit advocates available for NCLC's annual Consumer Rights Litigation Conference, which will be held in Washington, DC, November 8-11.
**********Although the scholarship deadline has passed, they will still consider applications if they are received by September 5.********
The conference includes a session on developing a legal services consumer practice, in addition to a wide range of substantive topics including foreclosures, predatory mortgage and small loan lending, automobiles, mobile homes, debt issues, credit reporting, student loans, and many others.
In addition to the main conference and its many substantive breakout sessions on consumer law, they have five intensives: Doing Well While Doing Good; Fighting Predatory Mortgage Lending through Litigation; Defending Debt Collection Suits; Stopping Foreclosures, and our 7th annual Class Action Symposium. The brochure and online registration information is available on their website, at http://www.nclc.org/conference_training/index.shtml.
Money-saving Deadlines: conference registrations received by September 10, 2007 are eligible for discounted rates, and hotel reservations made by October 12 will be at reduced rates.
To apply for a scholarship, send a statement of your financial needs to NCLC, how you or your program will add to the diversity of the conference, and the benefits you expect to provide to low income consumers as a result of attendance. Scholarship applicants should send their requests to NCLC's Washington office. You will be notified whether or not we are able to offer you a scholarship before the early registration cut-off date of September 10. For additional information or to email your application, contact Shirlron Williams at shirlron@nclcdc.org, or fax to 202 463-9462. Be sure to include your full name, job title, organization, address, phone, and email.
