The Executive Board of the 3rd Annual Working In the Public Interest (WIPI) Law Conference will honor Georgia Legal Services Program Executive Director, Phyllis J. Holmen, as the 2008 WIPI Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. The student-organized WIPI Conference provides a forum where law students, law professors, and practicing attorneys can discuss practical solutions to today's social justice issues. The 2008 conference theme is "Challenging Poverty Through Law."

Phyllis Holmen was selected for having dedicated her entire career to public interest work, beginning at the organization she now leads right out of law school. Her commitment to using her law degree to combat poverty is noted by the students as in itself an enormous inspiration. Law students, the WIPI leaders say, face unyielding temptation to work at corporate firms rather than pursue their passions and view Ms. Holmen's professional example as a beacon for public interest law students. The WIPI Conference attendees will recognize Phyllis Holmen on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 5:30 PM in Sanford Hall 213, Terry College. A reception will follow at 6:30 at the Dean Rusk Center.

For a complete schedule of Friday's ceremony and reception and for information on the WIPI Conference generally, please visit our website at www.law.uga.edu/wipi.
