Atlanta – Stephen M. Krumm of the Atlanta Legal Aid Society was honored by the State Bar of Georgia Access to Justice Committee with the 2010 Dan Bradley Legal Services Award, presented during the Bar’s annual meeting June 18 at Amelia Island, Fla.
Krumm, an attorney with Atlanta Legal Aid for more than 20 years, was selected for his long-term commitment to civil legal services for the poor, for the high quality of his work, and for his skills in nurturing and supervising lawyers.
Since 1998, Krumm has been the director of Atlanta Legal Aid’s Senior Citizen Law Project where he provides legal assistance to the elderly and supervises lawyers in assisting senior citizens on a number of legal matters including government benefits and nursing home care issues.
The Bradley Award honors the memory of Georgia native and Mercer Law graduate Dan J. Bradley, who was president of the federal Legal Services Corporation from 1979 to 1982. He is credited by many with having been instrumental in saving the Legal Services Corporation, which funds programs like Georgia Legal Services Program and the
Atlanta Legal Aid Society, from elimination during the early 1980s.The award recognizes the work of an Atlanta Legal Aid or Georgia Legal Services Program attorney who has excelled in the commitment to the delivery of quality legal services to the poor and to providing equal access to justice.
The State Bar of Georgia, with offices in Atlanta, Savannah and Tifton, was established in 1964 by Georgia’s Supreme Court as the successor to the voluntary Georgia Bar Association, founded in 1884. All lawyers licensed to practice in Georgia belong to the State Bar. Its more than 41,000 members work together to strengthen the constitutional promise of justice for all, promote principles of duty and public service among Georgia’s lawyers, and administer a strict code of legal ethics.
