Managing Attorney Georgia Senior Legal Hotline

The Atlanta Legal Aid Society seeks a full-time Managing Attorney for its Georgia Senior Legal Hotline, a state-wide telephone service that provides legal advice, brief services, self-help information, and referrals to older Georgians. Applicants must be licensed to practice law in Georgia or be eligible to take the next Georgia bar exam. Five years of legal experience, preferably with a legal services or elder law background, and/or knowledge of the seniors network is also required. Previous management or supervisory experience is preferred.
The position is salaried, and requires a minimum work week of 37.5 hours. Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes an additional manager stipend. An manager with five years of legal experience starts at $42,300. Fringe benefits are generous, and include educational loan reimbursement up to $500 per month, paid vacation and sick leave, liberal health insurance benefits, payment of bar dues, and assistance with commuter parking or MARTA costs.
The Hotline office is located in the Georgia Division of Aging Services, which is near the Five Points MARTA station, and a few blocks from the downtown office of Atlanta Legal Aid. Current Hotline staff consists of six experienced part-time attorneys, two volunteer attorneys, and volunteer law and work study students. The Managing Attorney is responsible for supervising hotline staff, students and volunteers, and for the overall management of the office. The Hotline accepts calls five days a week, for six hours each day. Hotline attorneys provide legal advice, brief services, self-help information and legal referrals by telephone to Georgia's senior population, with special focus upon low income and minority callers.
While current Hotline staff may work either in the office, or from an off-site location, the Managing Attorney is required to work on site. Hotline attorneys make presentations before community groups regarding the Hotline's services and about relevant legal issues. The legal work of the Hotline is fast-paced, and involves a wide range of legal issues and concerns. The Hotline office is an informal and supportive work environment.
This Managing Attorney position requires work with a variety of funding sources and includes the preparation and submission of reports. The Hotline Manager makes presentations about Hotline services and programs.
