Medicaid Qualifying Irrevocable Trust Seminar
June 22, 2004 (9 a.m. - 12 noon)
Headquarters of the State Bar of Georgia, Atlanta
Effective July 1, 2004, the State of Georgia is terminating the Medically Needy Medicaid program for persons in nursing home facilities. Almost 1,700 residents have been notified that their Medicaid will be terminated.
However, if part of the resident's income is put into a Medicaid Irrevocable Qualified Income Trust (or Miller Trust), the resident will still be eligible for Medicaid. A model trust document has been developed for this purpose. Before July 1, 2004, we need volunteer attorneys to assist the affected residents to complete the trust and protect the resident's Medicaid eligibility.
A 3 hour CLE seminar, co-sponsored by I.C.L.E. in Georgia, the State Bar of Georgia Pro Bono Project Office, Georgia Legal Services Program and Atlanta Legal Aid will be held in Atlanta from 9 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. on June 22, 2004. It will be at the Headquarters of the State Bar of Georgia, 3rd floor, 104 Marietta Street, Atlanta, Georgia. Remote hook-up on the Internet through WebEx may also be available for attorneys outside of Atlanta. The seminar will provide information on general qualifying trust law, a form trust document, Medicaid eligibility criteria, basic guardianship information, and a limited financial power of attorney.
If you attend the seminar on June 22, 2004, you will receive these valuable materials. The seminar is free, but if you want the three hours of CLE credit, you must pay the $15.00 MCLE fee to I.C.L.E. We are requiring attorneys to agree to handle up to five cases in exchange for attending the training and receiving the materials, even if no MCLE credit is claimed.
You may download the seminar registration form by going to the I.C.L.E. web site at http://www.iclega.org/programs/5798.html
