Disaster Recovery Center Opens Tomorrow in Americus

(ATLANTA) - Local, state and federal officials announced plans today to open a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) from 12 noon to 6:30 p.m., Monday, March 5, in Americus. Starting Tuesday, March 6, the DRC will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily until Saturday, March 10. The DRC will remain open longer, if necessary.
The purpose of the DRC is to provide assistance and information to people in Sumter County affected by Thursday's tornado. According to Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) Director Charley English, they may register for disaster assistance and receive other services at the center.
The DRC will be located in the Gertrude Davenport, Inc., Building at 1607 Martin Luther King Boulevard in Americus. Residents and business owners in Sumter County who sustained damages from the tornado and severe storms on March 1-2, are encouraged to apply for disaster assistance as soon as possible by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).
