GLSP Elder Advocate Appointed as National Insurance Association Liaison

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Feb. 16, 2007)-- The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) recently named its funded and unfunded consumer liaison representatives for 2007. Nine of the funded consumer representatives participated in the program in 2006, while six are new to the NAIC program.
Evelyn "Langga" Gay, a senior paralegal with the Savannah Regional Office of Georgia Legal Services Program, has been appointed one of the Association's fifteen Consumer Representatives from across the country.
"This NAIC program is critical to our consumer protection goals," said Mike Kreidler, Washington Insurance Commissioner and Chair of the NAIC’s Consumer Board of Trustees. "The consumer liaison representatives play an increasingly important role in helping improve the insurance regulatory system.
Established in 1992, the program promotes consumer representation within the NAIC and interaction with the Association’s Members, the insurance industry and interested parties through the individuals’ dedication and commitment to serving the public interest.
The mission of the NAIC is to assist state insurance regulators, individually and collectively, in serving the public interest and achieving the following fundamental insurance regulatory goals in a responsive, efficient and cost effective manner, consistent with the wishes of its members: protect the public interest; promote competitive markets; facilitating the fair and equitable treatment of insurance consumers; promoting the reliability, solvency and financial solidity of insurance institutions; and supporting and improve state regulation of insurance.
Gay focuses on elder law issues within Georgia Legal Services Program. She has extensive experience in senior issues, including Medicare insurance issues, and has spearheaded special projects fosusing on healthcare access for senior citizens. In addition to her GeorgiaCares project management, she is a sought-after speaker and trainer on senior health issues.
Gay currently serves on the Association's Senior Issues Task Force.
