The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) has just issued a report analyzing and contrasting the House, Senate and President’s approaches regarding the Section 8 voucher portion of the HUD appropriations bill for fiscal year (FY) 2008. Essentially, the Senate bill funds all vouchers in use in 2007, the House bill would fail to renew 50,000 vouchers and the President’s budget would cut out 80,000. For more details, see the full report and methodological index posted on CBPP’s web page.
As the report summarizes, “[t]he decisions about the voucher formula and funding levels that Congress makes this fall—and the President’s decision about whether to veto the HUD appropriations bill—will . . . have significant implications for tens of thousands of low-income people across the nation who are struggling to afford decent housing.”
