, Powell Goldstein, LLP, presented a tribute to Attorney General Thurbert E. Baker and Jeffrey O. Bramlett, Bondurant, Mixson &Elmore, LLP, presented a tribute to Phyllis J. Holmen.Thurbert E. Baker was appointed Georgia’s fifty-second Attorney General by then-Governor Zell Miller on June 1, 1997. He has since been elected twice to four year-terms. As Attorney General he has taken an active role in the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG), where he serves on the Executive Committee. He has recently been elected by his colleagues to serve as Vice President of NAAG and will assume the position of President in 2006. He is also the Vice Chair of the NAAG Homeland Security Committee, and he serves as NAAG’s representative to the American Bar Association’s House of Delegates. For the past several years, Georgia Trend magazine has recognized Mr. Baker as one of Georgia’s most infl uential citizens.
Phyllis Holmen has been the Executive Director of Georgia Legal Services Program since 1990. She recently celebrated her thirtieth year of service with GLSP, beginning her career there in 1974, following graduation from University of Illinois College of Law. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the State Bar of Georgia Board of Governors, and is active with several State Bar Committees, including the Advisory Committee on Legislation, the Access of Justice Committee, the Committee on Women and Minorities in the Profession, and the Individual Rights Section of the State Bar.
Phyllis Holmen also serves as a member of the Governor’s Judicial Nominating Commission, the Supreme Court’s Indigent Defense Commission, the Supreme Court’s Blue Ribbon Commission on the Judiciary, and the Administrative Offi ce of the Court’s Committee on Pro Se Litigants. She is a member and serves on Boards of many national and community boards and organizations.
