The topics for this Kinship Care training include: adoption, custody, public benefits, and GLSP immigration policies. The agenda is as follows:
1. Introduction: 9:00 a.m. - 9:15 a.m.
PBI Coordinator Safi Toure will briefly discuss public service and the role of private attorneys. She will highlight the volunteer opportunities available at GLSP. The speakers and the trainers will be introduced.
2. Adoption 101: 9:15 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.
Attorney Karlise Grier will provide a nuts and bolts training on adoption.
3. Custody 101: 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Attorney Davida Gude will provide a basic training on custody.
4. Public Benefits: 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Attorney Vicky Kimbrell will identify and discuss the interrelationship of adoption assistance and other benefits programs, including SSI, Medicaid, Peachcare, TANF, and public housing. This workshop will focus on issue spotting to assure that legal advocates consider all of the other benefits programs when applying for public assistance.
5. GLSP's Immigration Policies: 2:15 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.Attorney Wendy Jerkins will address GLSP's immigration policies in family law cases.
The training will be webcast (except for the discussion on immigration policies). This is a basic workshop for GLSP and pro bono attorneys.
