Volunteer Opportunities

Currently, because of budget and staffing limitations, the legal services organizations in Georgia that provide free civil legal help to low-income clients can provide services for only twenty percent (20%) of the people who are eligible - that's one (1) out of every five (5) people who need assistance. ** The other four must seek help from pro bono and "low-bono" programs, go into debt to pay a private attorney, or do without legal help.

Throughout Georgiathere are a number of pro bono and "low bono" programs that help low-income people secure legal help. During the past year, these programs have been working together to build a stronger justice community in Georgia by, among other things, combining resources to provide better support and training for their volunteers and staff.

The organizations have developed the Georgia Online Justice Community, a section of the GeorgiaAdvocates.org web site to connect pro bono attorneys with:

· A Library of Training Materials,

· A Calendar of Training Events,

· Pro Bono News

· Listings of Volunteer Pro Bono Opportunities Sorted by Topic and Geographic Area.
